Steps To Test And Monitor ReadyBoost Performance?

ReadyBoost is a special Disk Cache Service available in the Microsoft’s Window Operating System and it was mainly introduced when the Windows Vista came out, but you can find this feature in all every Windows release after the Windows Vista release. So, if you are using Windows 7, 8, 8 .1 and Windows 10 then by using this feature you can use your fast removable devices such as USB Flash Drives, Secure Digital and Compact Flash Memory Cards for speeding up the smaller Random Disk Process in your computer.

Mainly ReadyBoost helps our computer system to improve the amount of Physical Memory available in our PC and increase the productivity of your hard drive installed in your system. It was a highly promoted feature and it may be useful in some limited circumstances.

Previously I also wrote about this, what is this ReadyBoost and how it’s working and something also about its performance on my this “ReadyBoost – Explained With Uses And Features” article which you can also check if you wanna to know more about it.

So, Let See How You Can Easily Monitor Or Test Your ReadyBoost Performance:

You can use your Windows Performance Monitor to test how programs you run is affecting your system’s performance, both in real time and by collecting log data for later analysis. And that’s the reason why we use Performance Monitor to analyze the ReadyBoost performance.

So, First of all, you’ll need to open your Windows Performance Monitor and to open it, you can use your Windows Run Commander to make thing a lot quicker and easy.

So, press “Windows + R” key to open run commander and then type “Perfmon” in the blank field and press enter.

Now when the Performance Monitor gets open, you’ll have to click or expand the Monitoring Tools and in that option, you’ll find another tool named “Performance Monitor”, after that just double click on it.

In that “Performance Monitor” tool you’ll find the “X” Red button in the upper top tool menu, I just want you to click on it.

After that, I want you to click on green “+” button to add the ReadyBoost performance graph.

Now, scroll down the left-hand side menu until you’ve found the “Ready boost cache” counter and after that just expand that ReadyBoost Cache option and select the “Bytes cached” in that list.

When you’ve selected it, just click on add button to add it to the right-hand side list, and at last, just click “OK” to see the current performance of you ReadyBoost cache.

Now you can see the performance and if you’ve wanted to add more ReadyBoost stuff to analyze then repeat the whole step and add other options to analyze the performance, or otherwise, you can press “Alt + F4” to exit the performance monitor window.

Here’s the picture below which shows every ReadyBoost Cache Performance:

  1. I have configured a USB stick as ReadyBoost (whole), i see it fills it near 100%, but on Performance Monitor i do not have anything about ReadyBoost at all.
I know ReadyBoost is doing something since it i disable it, i can not run Two programs at the same time (VirtualBOX with a virtual machine 60% of RAM + Software developer that takes a lot of RAM).
also i can see it in action in Resource Monitor, when it is active the free ram is greater.
But i can not add Performance Monitor object for ReadyBoost (there is no none)!
    It is very weird!
    Windows 10 Home 64Bits with 4GiB RAM + 4GiB USB 2.0 Stick for ReadyBoost.
Note: Also putting another 4GiB stick also for ReadyBoost i gain a little extra free RAM, but not as much as with the first one.
