Report Data Collected On: 1/Sep/2019

Storage starving computer content is being released day by day and I don’t think your flash drive size SSD will be going to last, soon enough to fulfill all your basic storage needs;

And that’s the part where the big mechanical drive comes in.

Massive storage with the cheap shiny prices; believe it or not, but the era of a hard drive isn’t going to be dead shortly.

The main purpose of having a big hard drive is to improve the storage capacity of your device. If your hard drive gets damaged, you will lose all your saved data. That is why most people keep a backup drive. They buy an additional hard drive and make a copy of all their vital files into that.

You might have more than 10,000 digital photos or a large number of downloaded songs in folders saved on your desktop. So, no matter what your media will take up all the valuable space on your PC, having a big hard drive is now getting even more necessary. If you are like several other people who keep on gathering data on their computer, then maybe it’s the time where you should need to move on and get a massive storage hard drive.

Apart from traditional hard drives, there are also other types of drives available to serve for the special purpose;

Like surveillance hard drives, which is a vital module for the purpose of digital storage of surveillance videos. It can be utilized in an NVR, Video Server, DVR, or a Video Management System that will work for 24/7. It is necessary for these hard drives to be active at all hours to keep video proof live.

Other than Desktop or Surveillance HDD, there are two more drive types out in the market, are called ‘NAS’ & ‘Servers’ class drives.

Have a glance at some of them;

  • RPM: 7200
  • Read and Write Speed: 245.6 MB/s, 232.6 MB/s
  • Cache Size: 256 MB
  • Warranty: 5 Years
  • Price Tag: 319.99$ Approx. {Check Current Price}

About it: Seagate claims that the BarraCuda Pro leads the desktop market in random reading and writing performance; there is no other hard-drive that is up to its competition. The Barracuda Pro series comes in a standard 3.5” form factor with a 6 GB/s SATA interface.

One of the good things about Barracuda Pro drives is that they all come with its Multi-Tier caching Technology (MTC). It can boost the drive’s performance by using an intelligent layers media cache which optimized the data flow through the various levels of memory-based cache.

This hard-drive uses a leading ‘Avago’ drive controller and comes with a five-year warranty, which also includes two years of Seagate Rescue Data Recovery Service (with 90% of success rate).

Every hard-drive has its own unique endurance capacity. This particular hard-drive can tolerate up to 300,000 load cycles, which is actually the measurement of the number of times the arm of the drive goes on and off the ramp that secures the arm when its power is down.

This drive’s datasheet says that it can go up to 220 MB/s, but I got amazed when I look through some reviews and found that its whoopingly producing more than 245 MB/s on ‘CrystalDiskMark’ benchmark software.

The pricing of the product for the 10TB variant is approx. $320, which justifies the product specifications or not, can’t be measured.

In my Opinion;

People usually don’t buy a massive hard drive for their desktop computer, and that’s why you can see the limited options while buying one. But if you ask me, then I can definitely suggest you buy an ‘Enterprise-grade Drive’ because it can get you more than you spend.

You know that under 273$ you can get the top first enterprise-class drive of our list, which surely has some pretty good specs to get your attention on it.

  • RPM: 7200
  • Read and Write Speed: 235 MB/s, 220 MB/s
  • Cache Size: 256 MB
  • Warranty: 3 Years
  • Price Tag: 273.99$ Approx. {Check Current Price}

About it: Toshiba has continued the trend to apply seven – platter HDD platform to new applications and market segments, increasing the capacity for its hard-drive to 10 TB along with improving its performance slightly.

This hard-drive promises to be faster than its competitors of the same class (even the ones on the higher end) but at the cost of higher power consumption.

And since its working with the Toshibas seven – platter HDD platform, this device is faster than most of its brother hard-drives from Toshiba itself. It can read and write with a speed of up to 235 MB/s, which is amazing as compared to others.

Toshiba is fully aware of the fact that power consumption is not a strong side of the MN06ACA10T HDD and did a good thing by officially positioning the driver for SOHO and SMB NAS appliances as well as for archive and data backup apps, where it will not be one of the significant problems.

Its price of $273.99 feels like a good amount to pay for a 10TB budget NAS Hard Drive. And it also comes with a three years warranty which is cool. One more thing that a person buying it should know is, its rated annual workload is around 180 TB, which is more than enough for a mid-end user buying it.

In my Opinion;

Having the highest speed with the lowest price tag in its segment, you just can’t compare this drive with anyone. This is actually gold for the ‘budget-friendly pocket’ users.

As according to the top 2nd NAS drive “WD Red Pro”, the only downside this drive has is the lack higher annual workload and the warranty, which is bearable if you look at the speed and the price tag.

It comes with improved real-time drive performance, which is possible because of Toshibas dynamic Cache technology which optimizes read and write cycle cache allocation.

The problem with regular hard-drives is that they come without RV sensors and therefore, it can affect the performance of a multi-bay system by generating ‘knock-on’ vibrations. S300 makes sure of high reliability by helping in minimizing the effects of the vibration with their advanced control and sensing technology.

It has a rated workload of 180 TB per year. The endurance of S300 is of no doubt very suitable for use by any surveillance cameras system. You can operate it in a high-temperature zone too and it will not cause a lot of problems for you. High-temperature zones start optimized seek speed to support lower power usage while at the same time automatically reduces the noise and vibrations emissions.

It comes with a three-year warranty. It is priced at $304. Though different online sites may show you, different sellers, selling it at a different price, this is an average price for the same. Overall it is a good product to invest money in.

In my Opinion;

If you’re into to buy a drive with the excellent performance like me, then this drive is especially for you.
