Ram Upgrade – Explained
We heard about this lot, that a ram upgradations can speed up our computer performance and make it faster. And did you really know what’s the truth is?
ANSWER is No!! Or Maybe:
Yeah, that’s the answer; there was the time when people having slow computers in their home and offices and some new heavy softwares came out in the market and those softwares require more ram to run itself and due to lack of low amount of ram memory in those old computers it won’t able work properly. So, at an old time, people do add a new ram into their computers and feeling like the real time difference while working.
But that time was gone from now and if you having a decent computer with a decent amount of ram in it, then the low amount of ram won’t be an issue for a slow or laggy performance of your computer.
If you don’t know, ram is a type of computers memory who remembers which program is running by saving some current process data files in there free space of memory. Every ram having a defined amount of memory to store process data and it’s like 2GB or 16GB’s of ram memory.
So, that does clarify we’ll only need a high amount of ram when a heavy softwares needs it to run itself. I mean a normal amount of ram memory like 2GB or 3GB can handle the work load of running OS, listening music and some internet browsing at the same time and if you having 4 or 6 Gigs of ram installed in your computer desktop then you really don’t have to worry about it ‘cos you’ve won’t gonna find any problem, but if you having some lower amount of memory like only 1 GB on your side then maybe that’s gonna make some problem because normally your computers do need minimum 2 gigs of memory and 3 or 4 would be more grateful for a decent load of computer work. If you wanna to know more about how ram works or how much you really needed for yourself then I have a perfect tutorial linked below and that will definitely give you a good idea about that.

#Why We Do Ram Memory Upgradation
Normally we have only two reasons why we’re going to upgrade our PC’s Ram Memory and those are –
- Upgrade to improving computer’s speed, when it gets slow.
- Upgrade to run some heavy games or software on our computer.
If you having a problem like slow or a laggy computer by your side then maybe you’ll have to check something before upgrading a ram stick.
Yes, I’m talking about does your computer really need a ram upgradations or it’s just an operating system problem of your PC.
Windows Task Manager is the great windows tool to check your computers ram performance and can also show you the real-time usage of your system’s ram by displaying a graph. Just Press Ctrl-Alt-Del and select windows task manager to open it.
Here’s a task manager of my computer and you can see I’m having 2 GB’s of ram on my computer and it only uses 827 Mb, which means I have plenty of ram space to use when I start to work. So, I don’t have to worry about it.
But I do need an up-gradation if I want to play some heavy games or softwares on my computer who only perform with the high amount of memory like 8 gigs or maybe 16 gigs.
“A friend of mine is having only 1 Gigs of ram in his computer and the minimum usage what his computers takes around 800 Mb – 850mb without any running application. So, every time when he tries to do some work on their computer, its computer start to lag and freeze the whole system performance. This problem only occurs when you’re running a computer with a low amount of ram, which means my friend has to upgrade some gigs of ram in their computer if he wants to do some work on it.”
So, check your ram usage in the windows task manager and if your computer uses only 30 or 40% of ram without any running application on your computer that means you don’t have to do anything with your ram, it’s perfect until you’ve run any heavy softwares.
If your computer uses around 80 or above 80% of ram usage without any running application, then now you should need to upgrade your PC’s ram or if you find your ram usage is normal then you can try to do some work on your computer and then check the ram status again.
So, if you find your system’s ram usage got higher that 80% while running some softwares on your computer and it can’t be able to handle that process then you should definitely need an upgradation.
Sometimes our ram usage is in good condition but our computer still running too slow:
In that case, you should check the CPU usage graph in the task manager and if the usage is high in that graph then it’s not a ram problem, you’ll have to upgrade your processor.
“If you can’t find any high usage problem with your ram and processor both, then its possible your windows got corrupted and you can try to reinstall it and most of time that would help’s a lot. If the problem still exists even after trying OS reinstallation then it’s a 100% hardware problem of your system”
#Upgrading Memory For New Software Or Game
The second main reason for a ram upgradation is when we want to run a heavy software or may be wondering about to play some high-end graphic games on our PC. If that’s the case with you then this upgradation would be very beneficial for you.
So, now the main question is how much ram do I really need for that?
The answer is on the pack of your software or game CD’s disk, yes right under the system requirements column. This is the trick what I used for myself and recommend to every people who asked me about that. Now you’ll just need to find, which operating system does your computer is operating and what program did you want to run on it.
Now, Check the system requirements for both of your OS and software and find the correct amount of ram memory for your computer system.
It’s be like, deciding our ram usage by combining our OS, Game or Software’s ram recommendation on their product system requirements page.
Example: Windows 7 needs 1 GB’s of ram to run properly and AutoCAD 2016 needs 2 GB. So that means if we install 3 gigs of ram on our computer, we do experience some great performance while using that software.
Do the same for your game too:
There are 3 tips what I’m suggesting everybody before buying any ram for your computer’s upgradation.
- Did you having any free ram slot on your computer’s motherboard, if not then remove the old ram and purchase the higher amount of ram stick this time.
- There are different types of ram available in the market according to the different motherboard. So, make sure you do buy a compatible ram for your computer. You can check out that by this link >> “What Type of Ram Does My Computer Support and I Have Installed?”
- Buying a ram who also having some bandwidth compatibility with your old installed ram. If your old ram having 600 or 800 MHZ something like clock speed then you’ll only need to buy your new ram with the same amount of bandwidth in it because different bandwidth does conflict with each other.
#At Last, How To Upgrade Ram
Installing ram in your laptop or desktop would be an easy task to do and a single right size of a screw drive you’ll only gonna need for the whole installing task. I don’t wanna to make you bored, that’s why now I’m gonna move directly to the point.
Upgrading Ram In Desktop
- Open your computer’s case by removing the screws that hold the side panels and then lifting it away from the case.
- Insert the RAM into the ram slot on your motherboard, by pressing the RAM from upwards.
Upgrading Ram In Laptop
- Flip your laptop upside down, remove the battery and find the memory module slot cover and open it.
- Slide the ram module into the socket according to the socket key and press the ram down.
Note – Sockets align at about 30-degree angle.
#What A Memory Upgradation Can Affect Your Computer?
- Smoother Multitasking.
- Fast Web Surfing Speed.
- Better Performance In Video Editing.
- Optimized Operating System Processing Speed.
- Better Performance In Gaming.
