KMODE EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED – Solutions

The KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED is a Blue Screen Of Death Error message and it’s also known for its Bug Check Error Code value of 0x0000001E.

The main reason behind this error to come up on your Computer’s Screen is that a Kernel Mode Program is causing an exemption, which the error handler didn’t able to identify.

If you don’t know what’s the “kernel mode program” is?

Then, in your Windows or I can say in almost all Up-To-Dated Operating Systems, there is a division between the code operating which is “User Mode” and the other one in “Kernel Mode”.

And at the other side, all computers processors have different modes of operation which they called rings, and the particular type of ring having its own instructions and memory available to run the particular type of code.

Normally in the Intel CPU’s, it has four rings where the first one name is “Ring 0” (also known as kernel mode) and that’s the one who operates and have full access to use every resource;

And it’s the mode in which the Windows kernel run.

Why “Kmode Exception Not Handled” Is Occurring In Your Computer?

When your Windows Operating System is about to boot, the Windows kernel is started. It runs in kernel mode and sets up Paging and the Virtual Memory.

Mainly, most of the programs run in the kernel mode, and when they overwrite each other’s memory, which leads to cause some crashes and possibly bring down the entire system.

In a normal language, it’s possible that your computer’s Windows, Drivers, Registry or maybe some Software is corrupted, which is actually causing this issue.

So, let’s see how to fix this error:

#Tip For the condition – Error Occurring On Computer’s Startup

Mainly, while in between the windows loading;

You can skip this startup repair solution and move to the next one if your Windows is in running condition and you are having this problem while working on your OS.

Sometimes people having this BSOD Error while when they start their Windows OS and in the middle of the loading, the error appears and the computer gets restart.

Or I can say, you just PC gets stuck in an infinite restart loops;

In case, if you do having this problem with your computer too, then the first thing which I want you to do is to try to fix your PC by using the Startup Utility tool.

And that’s really a great tool to use. But the thing is;

You’ll have to use your Windows Installer Disc or Pen Drive in order to start or use that feature.

Or in case, if you still didn’t try to open your windows by using the SAFE Mode, then this feature can actually save some time for yours because by use this feature you really don’t have to use the Windows disc.

Just by pressing the F8 key on the System’s Startup, can show you the menu where you can actually select the option to starts your Windows in Safe Mode. This link can help >> Safe Mode – What It Is And How To Use It?

If you successfully able to open your Windows in Safe Mode, then now you’ll need to skip some couple of paragraphs and start to follow the instructions given in the “Solution No.1 – Use SFC /SCANNOW To Repair Windows” below in this article.

Or In case, If you aren’t able to start your computer in the safe mode, then these given links will help you to know, how to starts and use the Startup Repair feature.

If the startup repair won’t works for you, then now you’ll need to reinstall your windows to get this error repaired;

Or otherwise, if you fixed your Windows and the startup repair do make your computer to open up properly, but you still getting this problem while using some software or maybe in middle of some work;

Then you can also try to follow some other solutions given below in this article too;

Solution#1 – Use SFC /SCANNOW To Repair Windows

Sfc Scan is a great command run by CMD which can help you to repair your Windows by just typing a single command in the Windows Command Prompt.

  1. Open CMD, as an administrator.
  2. Then type the command Sfc /Scannow and hit enter. Make sure you don’t close this CMD window until the verification gets 100% completed.
  3. Restart your computer and test it.

If the blue screen has gone, then that’s good!! If don’t, then just move to the next solution;

Solution#2 – Repair Drivers

Most of the times the “Kmode Exception Not Handled” error caused by the corrupted drivers of our computer

But sometimes it’s possible that the problem is mainly coming from some externally connected device;

Like a Printer, Scanner or maybe a Camera or something else.

So, in case if you have any external device connected to your computer or laptop, then I think now it’s the time you should need to unplug all of those connected cables and then try to test your system by performing some high process tasks.

If the problem’s gone by just removing the external device from your computer, then that’s great;

Because now you troubleshoot that your problem is 100% coming from the corrupted drivers for that particular hardware.

And you know, by just updating the drivers for that particular hardware, you can actually fix your PC.

If the problem still remains, even after ‘disconnecting the cable’ thing;

Then now you’ll just need to stay continue with this article and troubleshoot some more to know which one of your computer’s driver is creating this problem.

2.1 – #Analyzing The Error

Now the thing which I want you to do is to analyze your Blue Screen of Dump Error, and by doing that, it will clarify you that which one of your computer’s driver is causing this problem and need to get repaired.

Mainly you will only need to find the driver’s name which is most of the time listed on the right side after the Kmode_Exception_Not_Handled error’s name.

The driver’s file name which is creating the problem actually looks like XXX.sys or XYZ.sys;

Whatever it called, but that driver’s file is having the .sys extension at the end of its name.

After finding the name, now it’s going to be a lot easier for you to download that particular corrupted driver;

If your BSOD error only shows you the main error name without any .sys file after it, then you can skip this whole “Analyzing the Drivers” part and just move on to the next step about “2.2 #Repairing drivers” blow in this article because now you’ll need to try to download and update all of your system drivers and maybe some other Windows repairing stuff too, in order to fix this problem.

This is how your system’s corrupted drivers name looks like:

The next thing what you’ll need to do after finding the driver’s file name in your blue screen error;

Is to find that driver file on the driver’s directory to get the full information about it, like its full name, or for which thing that driver is actually used for like something.

Here’s a great website which I personally use and listed down below where you can easily find your driver’s information by just searching the .sys drivers file name on it.

So open the link given below and search for your driver’s name.

Drivers Directory -> http://www.carrona.org/dvrref.php

For example, I’m taking a driver’s file name “atikmdag.sys”;

And when I search that file on that directory website, it shows me the full description about that driver’s file as you can see in the picture given below:

According to the example, it’s a display card drivers which is creating the problem and you can actually see its information, in the information column;

2.2 – #Repairing drivers

So, now we need to repair our drivers;

If now, you do know about your driver’s name by analyzing the blue screen trick, then that’s great!!!

But in case, if you don’t know which one your drivers is creating the problem, then you still don’t have to worry about it because I covered solutions for both of those situations.

It’s good to know your faulty driver’s name because that’s gonna help you to quickly fix your problem.

So, now I want you to uninstall that particular driver from the device manager of your windows and after that install back the latest version.

To uninstall drivers;

Now you’ll need to open the device manager by pressing the “Windows + R” key at the time on your keyboard to open the Run dialog box, and after that type the command “devmgmt.msc” and click OK.

When it’s get opened, now search for the driver who’s corrupted;

Which you can also find listed under their related category.

In case, if you weren’t able to understand what I’m talking about, then I’m saying, that if you found your display driver is corrupted through the driver analyzing;

Then you’ll need to uninstall your display’s driver which you can find under the display adapters category.

Or maybe if you’ve found your network drivers got corrupted like LAN or Wi-Fi drivers, then you’ll need to uninstall your Network Drivers which you can find under the Network adapters category;

As you can see in the example picture given below:

To uninstall that driver, you’ll just need to expand that driver’s category and once it gets expanded, right-click on the driver’s name and then just click on “Uninstall Drivers”.

Restart your computer after the drivers uninstalling, and then you’ll need to download the latest version of that driver and install it properly.

In case if you can’t able to find your drivers name, then now you’ll need to update all of your computer system’s drivers in order to make your PC back to normal.

  2. What if it is a device like a printer that has the corrupted driver? I still need to print. How can I repair the corrupted printer driver? My printer doesn’t seem to work well with another laptop in our house also. The printer has to restart constantly, however, a third computer in our house works great with the printer.

  3. first of all we should turn off fast startup. The next most important thing is updating your drivers and uninstalling cpu intensive programs. You should also clean up files to regain more space in windows 10.
