Something About Windows XP, And How To Install It

Windows XP was launched by Microsoft long back in 2001 that was received by everyone on a highly positive note and still this operating system is being extremely preferred by many consumers and business organization over other Operating System.

Many successors of XP is been presented by the company with time while Windows 10 is the latest version. But it could not stop the fan of XP to refuse the older version. Also, it is important to mention here that newest version does not always mean the best one rather the older version can win the game as well.

There are many reasons why this Windows XP is still liked by a large part of the consumers and why it was considered great. 😎

  • Windows XP is extremely user-friendly and this is definitely one of the most important reasons why it was considered as great. The recent versions of OS are coming with a metro style which has made people to adopt the XP OS over other operating systems. It’s almost 16 years XP has made an entry and it has been cyber attacked countless times. Also, the number of patched up is countless. That is the longevity is great and it is of course another great reason why XP is being preferred by many.
  • Another important reason to choose this operating system is this is compatible to work with less powerful and older hardware which is why it does not require the users to migrate to a new machine whereas the latest version of Windows, Windows 10 needs the machine to meet several criteria to work on a system.
  • The third reason that made it popular among all is its reliability and stability. Already mentioned that Windows XP was launched 16 years back that is this OS lived a long life and over this time it has been beaten and hammered on numerous time while the OS survived successfully. XP has plenty of strength and weaknesses while most of the weaknesses are been addressed over time. In one word, you cannot get more stable and reliable operating system like Windows XP till date.
  • Availability of plenty of resources of Windows XP is one reason why this OS is still being liked by all. This OS has ruled more than a one and half decade and this has ensured that any kind of issues in your XP and the solution for it will be easily available on the internet. Lots of support group (technical), user groups and Microsoft website contains vast information on XP which will help you in fixing any kind of issue easily.

So, these are main important points which indicate why Windows XP has been preferred by people more over the latest version of it including Windows 7. And this stuff is not just true for the individual rather business organization to have responded saying Windows XP was really great.

And it is really true that still, many firms work on XP as their hardware and tools are designed to work on XP more conveniently while migrating to the latest one might cost them a great amount.

So, Now Let’s See How To Install Windows XP On Your Desktop or Laptop PC? 🤔

But before directly get straight to the installation process, there are some couple of thing which I want you to check cuz acutely those are that things; which you’ll definitely need while during the installation process.

Lets’ start with;

  1. Hardware Compatibility 🖥– The first thing what you’ll need to check is that the version of Windows XP what you wanted to install, is do compatible with your computer system or not. You can check the Compatibility List online to ensure that your hardware is supported by Windows XP, or not; Normally, you won’t find any compatibility problem in latest computer or laptops, but it might possible that you’ll need to change some of your BIOS setting in order to run the Windows XP on your PC.

Here Are The Minimum System Requirements For Windows XP To Run On A Machine:

  • 300 MHz Intel or AMD CPU
  • 128 megabytes (MB) of system RAM
  • gigabytes (GB) of available drive space
  • CD or DVD-ROM
  1. Product Key 🔑– Or you can say “Serial Number” is actually a specific software-based License key for a particular program which certifies that the program you’ve purchased is original. Normally it’s printed on your software’s package, contains 25 characters in a group of 5 characters (each 5 long). And Yes! Just keep in mind that you’ll definitely need that product key in order to complete the Installation.
  2. Bootable Disc OR Drive 📀 – To install the Windows XP, you’ll definitely need a bootable disc or some other bootable USB device in order to start the installation. In case if you don’t have any or don’t know any idea about what I’m talking, then these links will help out from that problem.
  1. Boot Setting ⌨ CD, DVD, USB, or whatever you are using for the installation, but to start or to boot that bootable device of yours, you’ll also need to change the boot order of your computer so it can recognize the drive. Check out the link below to know more about Boot Order Setting and how to change it:
  1. Computer System Drivers – it’s actually the most common thing which you’ll need to install for the motherboard or for your desktop or laptop computer. So, before doing anything make sure you do have your computer drivers disc or otherwise you’ll need to download every single one of them from the online servers.
  1. Extra Bonus Tip – If your OS recently got corrupted and you wanted to recover your personal data from the internal hard disk or SSD before this current installation process, then check out this tutorial:

#Let’s Start the Process  💻

Step 1 – Insert/Plug the Windows XP CD/DVD/USB into your computer and push the start button.

Step 2 – Your PC should automatically detect the Bootable Drive and shortly you will get a message saying “Press any key to boot from CD/DVD/USB”.  So, now you’ll just need to press any key on your keyboard to continue. Make sure you press it quick or otherwise it will disappear after 5 sec. 😶

Step 3 – Now, your PC will ask you to “Press F6 if you want to install a third party Raid or SCSI driver”.

And that’s the option for those who are using their system’s drive in RAID or SCSI, if that the case with you. You’ll have to press the F6 key or otherwise, the Windows Setup will not detect your Hard Drive during the installation process. Normally you really don’t need to use this feature.

After that, the setup will start to load the import files what it need to run the further process;

Step 4 – Now you will get the “Windows XP Setup” screen in front of you, asking about the three options to choose and says ‘New Windows Install, Repair the previous install or quit” like something.

Since we are doing a clean new installation. So, according to me, you’ll need to press the “Enter” key on your keyboard, just to continue the process.

Step 5 – Now you’ll see “F8 = I agree”.  Just press F8 to accept and continue.

Step 6 – Now here comes the trickiest part of the installation process; and yes, it’s the understanding of the new partition creation or maybe saving the old one.

This step is really important because now I’m going to show you where actually your Windows OS going be install in your computer, and not just that, I also talked something about which partition you might need to leave for the previous OS data.

And right now, there are two different conditions which can possible to manage the partitions differently and yes, you definitely have one of them on your side too. So, let’s see what you can do about it:

  • Only Need To Format The Previous OS Drive And Save Other Drivers Data – To do that, first, you’ll need to find out that which one the partition is having your previous OS’s, and which also might need to format too. It’s possible that the listed C: drive on the setup menu is actually your OLD OS Drive, but actually you might also need to confirm it by cross-checking the size of your previous OS Partition. In case, if you don’t know about the size of your previous OS drive to cross-check, then I think you should need to press the “F3” key and quit the setup and run your main OS again, just to check the actual Partition Size of your currently installed OS.

  • Need To Format Everything And Install A New Clean OS – In that case, you’ll need delete all the listed partition showing in front of you, by using the “D” Key. And then it will merge all the local drives into as one, named ‘Unpartitioned space’ like something. Just use the menu key “C” to create the partition and then enter the amount of storage size which you wanted to assign to your New OS Drive. At least make it to 50GB.

#So, What’s Now? 🤓

Step 7 – Now Select Partition 1 (C: Drive) and then Press “Enter”.

Step 8 – Now you’ll need to choose the “Partition Format System” according to your need, in case you don’t about it, then just select the option says “Format the partition using the NTFS file system <Quick>”, and it will work for you.

This is also a recommended file system because we chose NTFS, cuz it offers and supports many security features, has support for larger drive sizes and also supporting the storage of big size files on the local drive.

Now setup will start to format the raw C: drive;

Now let your setup to copy the system files, which it actually need to run the main installation process.

Note – Leave the Windows XP Bootable drive into the computer.

Step 9 – When setup has completed copying the files, the computer will restart and asks you again to “Press any key to boot from CD/DVD/USB”, but this time you really don’t have to press any key and in few seconds, the setup will continue the second process of the Windows XP Setup Wizard.

Step 10 – Choose your region and language.

Step 11 – Type your name and your organization name.

Step 12 – Enter your Windows XP Product key.

Step 13 – Give a pet name to your computer, and enter an Administrator password (optional).

Step 14 – Adjust the correct Date, Time and Location setting according to your time zone.

Step 15 -In the network options, just select the “Typical Settings” tab and then just click on the “Next”.

Step 16 – Choose Workgroup or domain name. If you are not a member of a domain then leave the default settings and press next.

After that, it will take some time to install the OS and then your PC will restart again, just to complete the final installation processes.

Note: Make sure you still skip the “Press any key to boot from CD/DVD/USB” screen, after this restart too.

Now The Installation Is Done; But It’s Time To Configure The New OS;

  1. Set Up Your Display Preferences – Once your starts again, you’ll see a pop-up message saying “Windows will automatically adjust your display resolution” like something, so just click on “OK” to continue.
  1. Setup Your Connection Preferences –If your computer is already connected to the internet, select your connection type and press next to continue.
  1. Activate Your Windows – If your computer is connected to the Internet, then Select “Activate now.” It will automatically connect to the activation server and activate the copy of your Windows.

4. Create A User Account- After Activation, setup will ask you to enter a username. Enter your name, and then press “Next” to continue.

After when the installation completes, install your motherboard’s driver to use the full performance of your computer. Here is a list of those signs, which might get stick with your PC if the drivers aren’t properly installed in the computer:

  • System’s Instability
  • Malfunctioning Of Hardware
  • Unresponsive Hardware
  • Computer Errors
